Venice, Marco Polo Airport

Venice a world-wide known seaside attraction, built on wooden piles in a shallow swampy lagoon. The city is composed of 118 small islands, located in six main districts, in Italian, “Sestrieri”: Cannaregio, Castello, Dorsoduro, San Polo, Santa Croce and San Marco. The population of Venice is 55,000, however, the city is visited by 60,000 tourists from all over the world every day, even more in the summer. Marco Polo Airport is visited by almost nine million passengers every year, making it the fifth busiest airport in Italy. It is located in the Venetian lagoon, roughly 12 kilometres from Venice.
